9th OIC ministerial conference on women kicks off in Islamabad

The 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women has kicked off in Islamabad, with representatives from 57 member states participating in the event.
Law Azam Nazeer Tarar said Pakistan is hosting the OIC conference for the first time, terming it a matter of honour for the country.
He said the conference will focus on reviewing the role of women in development and addressing challenges faced by women across OIC member states.
The minister said technical sessions of the conference are being held today, while the main ministerial session will take place tomorrow.
He added that the conference will conclude with the issuance of the Islamabad Declaration, outlining key commitments regarding women’s development and empowerment.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will address the ministerial session, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is playing a key role in organising the conference.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Federal Minister for Women Development Shaza Fatima, and a large number of women participants are also attending the conference.
Various technical working groups are part of the event, while observers and ministerial delegations will participate in tomorrow’s session.
Tarar said the chairmanship of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women will be transferred from Egypt to Pakistan during the event.
He also appreciated the cooperation of the Ministry of Information in making arrangements for the successful hosting of the conference.
