KP raises police budget to Rs191bn, major allocations for CT-depart measures

WEB DESK: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has increased the police budget to Rs191 billion as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement capabilities and counter terrorism across the province.
KP Information Minister Shafi Jan said the provincial government is prioritising improvements in the law-and-order situation and the modernisation of the police system, with significant funds allocated for security measures.
He said Rs12 billion has been earmarked for police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in frontline districts, while Rs4 billion has been allocated for police and CTD infrastructure in merged districts.
The minister said the budget includes Rs1 billion for the CTD headquarters and Rs7.7 billion for arms and ammunition to enhance operational capacity.
He added that Rs1.8 billion has been allocated for bulletproof vehicles and armoured personnel carriers (APCs), while Rs3.562 billion has been reserved for advanced security technology, including thermal cameras, drones and modern surveillance systems.
According to Shafi Jan, Rs7.9 billion has been allocated for the monthly operational support of police personnel to ensure effective field operations.
He said funds have also been set aside for Safe City projects in Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Mardan, Kohat and Swat, along with Rs600 million for a modern forensic science laboratory.
The minister said the allocations reflect the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening police capacity and improving security measures to deal with emerging challenges.
