ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has filed a contempt of court petition in the Islamabad High Court against the Adiala jail superintendent and others for denying her meeting with the former prime minister.
She moved the court against the Adiala Jail superintendent and other officials, stating that the IHC’s order — which had restored the schedule of two weekly meetings — was not being implemented.
The petition was filed after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, along with several other PTI members, staged an overnight sit-in outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan has been incarcerated since 2023.
The protest came after Afridi was denied permission to meet Imran Khan for the eighth time on Thursday.
Earlier, Imran Khan’s sisters, including Aleema, also staged sit-ins outside Adiala jail after being denied meeting with their brother.
PTI ended its latest sit-in on Friday morning, after which CM Afridi announced he would approach the IHC to file a contempt plea.
The petition has made Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Sadar Bairuni police Station House Officer Raja Aizaz Azim, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha and Punjab Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin as respondents.
The plea stated that Aleema has been deeply concerned about her brother’s well-being, legal rights and humane treatment in custody.
Citing the IHC’s March 24 order restoring two weekly meetings with Imran Khan, the petition argued that Adiala jail officials have willfully disobeyed court directions.
It further statef that continued non-cooperation by the jail superintendent and ongoing political victimisation has forced Imran and others to file writ petitions in the IHC to enforce their right to visitation.
The petition also allegefd that despite clear court directives, authorities have repeatedly denied access to Imran’s legal counsel, family and party colleagues — continuing to defy the court’s orders.
