CALIFORNIA: Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway has gone viral on social media after casually using the word “Inshallah” during an interview with People magazine, sparking widespread reactions and curiosity online.
During the conversation, Hathaway was discussing her hopes for a long and healthy life when she said: “I want to have a long, healthy life, Inshallah. I hope so.” The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, where fans praised her natural use of the phrase.
“Inshallah” is an Arabic expression meaning “if God wills” or “God willing,” commonly used across the Arab world to express hope for the future while acknowledging divine will.
The phrase has previously drawn global attention in political and media contexts, including during the 2020 US presidential debate when then-candidate Joe Biden responded to Donald Trump with a sarcastic “When? Inshallah?”
Hathaway’s comment also led some viewers to question whether she is Muslim. However, she is not. The actress was raised Roman Catholic and later her family joined the Episcopal Church. She has previously described her faith as a personal “work in progress.”
The viral moment continues to circulate online, with many users highlighting the cross-cultural resonance of her remark and its positive reception among fans.
