Apple is reportedly preparing to bring several design and technological changes to its iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, which are expected to launch in September 2026. While the devices are still almost a year away, leaks suggest the new phones could offer some of the most notable updates in recent years.
According to multiple reports, the front-facing camera may shrink to a smaller hole-punch cutout, with under-display Face ID technology possibly arriving for the first time. The display corners could be slightly reworked, while the rear camera setup is likely to retain its familiar three-lens layout, although the main camera is expected to feature a variable aperture for better low-light performance and more control over depth of field.
A striking new design element could be a transparent section on the lower back of the Pro models, allowing a glimpse inside the device. The iPhone 18 Pro Max may also house its battery within a steel shell, enhancing durability.
Under the hood, the devices will reportedly run on Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s 3nm process with improved AI capabilities. Apple’s own C2 modem will provide faster 5G speeds and better power efficiency. Rumours also suggest potential support for 5G satellite internet, offering a glimpse of connectivity beyond traditional towers.
Camera upgrades could include a Samsung-supplied three-layer stacked sensor for sharper, more responsive imaging. Apple may also simplify the Camera Control button to reduce costs while keeping all existing functionality.
Apple appears to be shifting its release strategy, with the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and foldable model expected in September 2026, followed by the iPhone 18 and 18e in spring 2027. With almost a year to go, more details are expected to emerge as Apple finalises its plans.
