Ashab Irfan wins Kanso Men Open Squash Championship


Ashab Irfan defeated Indian Veer Chotrani to emerge victorious at the Kanso Men Open Squash Championship in Houston on Monday.

HOUSTON: Ashab Irfan defeated Indian Veer Chotrani to emerge victorious at the Kanso Men Open Squash Championship in Houston on Monday.

The match lasted for 80 minutes, during which Irfan, seeded third, defeated Chotrani, the fourth seed, with scores of 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8.

Irfan took an early lead by winning the first game 11-7, but Chotrani bounced back to level the match with an 11-8 victory in the second game.

The third game proved to be the turning point as Irfan narrowly edged out Chotrani in a tense tiebreak, securing a crucial 12-10 lead. Despite Chotrani’s strong performance in the fourth game, which he won 11-8 to force a decider, Irfan maintained his composure.

Ashab Irfan capitalised on Chotrani’s errors in the fifth game, ultimately clinching victory with an 11-8 scoreline.

The squash player secured his second tour title and win in a 9k tournament following his earlier victory at the Rochester ProAm in April.
