Attack on South Waziristan check post foiled, four terrorists killed

WEB DESK: Security forces foiled an attempted attack on a check post in South Waziristan, killing four terrorists during the operation, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement, the military’s media wing said terrorists belonging to the Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to target a security forces check post on July 25. However, security personnel responded swiftly and effectively, preventing the attack.

ISPR said a suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden vehicle was neutralised outside the perimeter of the check post. In total, four terrorists were killed during the operation.

The statement added that the attackers failed to breach the post’s security and caused no damage to the facility.

Security personnel also demonstrated courage and professionalism by cornering three additional terrorists inside a nearby building. The militants were later killed during a clearance operation. No security forces personnel were injured or killed during the operation.

According to ISPR, a search and sanitisation operation is ongoing in the area to locate any remaining Indian-backed Khawarij terrorists.

The military said counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign will continue with full intensity, adding that efforts against foreign-sponsored terrorism will persist until the threat is eliminated.

Separately, President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for successfully thwarting the attack.

President Zardari commended the forces for their timely, brave, and professional response, saying they had effectively foiled the terrorists’ malicious intentions. He added that security forces would continue operations against terrorism with full resolve and that terrorists and their facilitators would be defeated at all costs.
