SL VS AUS: Nissanka’s unbeaten century powers Lions to clinch Australia’s 182-run chase

Australia Post 182-run challenge for Sri Lanka in SL vs AUS T20 WC clash tonight

ISLAMABAD: The SL VS AUS clash saw the ICC World Cup hosting team chase a 182-run challenging total, as Lions’ top-notch batter Pathum Nissanka’s unbeaten century put the Australia bowling in trouble from the beginning through the end.

Earlier, Australia posted a competitive target of 182 runs for Sri Lanka in tonight’s high-voltage T20 World Cup encounter, delivering a strong batting performance under pressure.

After being put into bat, Australia got off to a steady start despite losing early wickets. The middle order played a crucial role in rebuilding the innings, with key contributions helping the team reach 182 in their allotted 20 overs. Timely boundaries and aggressive stroke play in the death overs pushed the total past the 180-mark, giving the bowlers a solid total to defend.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers showed moments of discipline but struggled to contain Australia in the final overs. A few breakthroughs in the middle overs kept the contest balanced, but Australia capitalised late to post a challenging score.

Chasing 182, Sri Lanka faced a demanding task under the lights, but the top-notch batters (Nissanka and middle-order Kusan Mendis) enabled their team to gain a deep sigh of relief, nearing the team’s victory with limited remaining runs.

After Mendis managed 51 off 38 balls, Pavan Rathnayake came in to support the invincible Nissanka amid roaring for victory.

Though the pitch offered some assistance to bowlers, Rathnayake ensured a firm stay at the crease, providing a 28-run, undefeated, strong support for the opener.

Thanks to Kusal Perera’s one jerk and the four extras the opponents’ bowlers conceded earlier, as that enabled the Lions to chase the 182-run total.
