WEB DESK: Australia lifted the Women’s T20 World Cup after a dominant seven-wicket win over England at Lord’s on Sunday, sealing a record-extending seventh title.

Batting first, England posted an under-par 150-4, built around an unbeaten 80-run stand between captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who scored 58 off 53 balls, and Freya Kemp, who made a quick 44 off 28. However, England struggled early, slipping to 39-2 inside the powerplay and failing to accelerate against a disciplined Australian attack.

Australia’s bowlers applied early pressure, with Annabel Sutherland, Kim Garth and Sophie Molineux striking at key moments to restrict England’s scoring, leaving them with a below-par total at a sold-out Lord’s.

In reply, Australia made a fast start as Georgia Voll set the tone, but it was a dominant second-wicket partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield that took the game away from England. The pair added a match-defining stand, racing Australia to 98-1 inside 10 overs.

Litchfield struck 48 off 35 balls, while Mooney produced a fluent 64 off 49 and was named player of the tournament for her consistent performances throughout the unbeaten campaign. Ellyse Perry then guided Australia home, finishing unbeaten as they reached 153-3 in 17.1 overs with 17 balls to spare.

Speaking after the match, Litchfield said Australia focused on “getting ahead of the game early,” while Mooney described the win as “the icing on the cake” after a dominant tournament.

England captain Sciver-Brunt acknowledged her side were “not at their best” as Australia once again underlined their long-standing dominance in women’s cricket.
