Balochistan caretaker CM selection nears deadline amidst lack of consensus

ISLAMABAD: As the deadline looms for the appointment of the caretaker chief minister of Balochistan, Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Opposition leader Malik Sikandar have been unable to reach a consensus on the crucial decision.
Should an agreement not be reached on the caretaker chief minister’s nomination today, the matter will be elevated to the Parliamentary Committee for further consideration.
Notably, the outgoing chief minister appears unhurried in settling the matter swiftly, according to insider sources.

Presently in Islamabad, Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Opposition Leader Malik Sikander Advocate convened to discuss various potential candidates for the coveted role. Subsequent consultations are scheduled for Tuesday, where both leaders will delve further into the formation of the caretaker administration.
In the event that a consensus on the interim chief minister’s nomination remains elusive by the end of today, the parliamentary committee will take charge of the selection process. It is anticipated that the committee will finalize its decision within a span of three days, following which the ultimate verdict will be delivered in two days’ time.
Among the contenders, the JUI-F opposition party proposed the name of former MNA Usman Badini, while Ejaz Sanjrani, brother of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, also remained in contention. Senator Kahuda Babar of BAP, Hammal Kalmati of BNP-Mengal, and Naveed Kalmati were also prominent nominees. Adding to the roster, PPP’s Ali Hassan Zehri from the Hub district, an aspirant supported by PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, emerged as another name under consideration.
