Balochistan: Death toll from monsoon rain rises to 14

ISLAMABAD: The death toll due the ongoing monsoon rains in Balochistan has risen to 14, according to reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The casualties reached 14 after two children were swept away in a flash flood during a rainy rally in Loralai, as per the PDMA reports.

The report highlighted that three individuals were killed in Zhob and Nasirabad each, while two people lost their lives in Quetta. Furthermore, one person in Awaran, Qilla Saifullah, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti, Pasni, Kech, and Jhal Magsi each succumbed to the heavy rains.

While the intense downpour injured more than 14 individuals across the province.

Meanwhile, the report also indicated that a total of 332 houses were completely destroyed, with an additional 334 houses were partially damaged in the province due to the incessant showers.

The relentless rain has resulted in the washout of eight kilometers of roads and the damage of 320 solar panels in Balochistan.

PMDA predicts more monsoon rains

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday issued a weather advisory predicting light and heavy rains in various cities of Punjab from the first week of August.

According to the PDMA’s latest forecasts, several upper cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Sahiwal, and Sialkot are likely to experience rainfall throughout the month of August.

Recent rainfall in the region has brought some relief to water reservoirs as the Mangala Dam has reached 84% capacity, while the Tarbela Dam is currently holding at 85%.

Rising death toll across Pakistan

Meanwhile, earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the death toll from torrential monsoon rains had reached 157 including 65 men, 28 women and 64 children.

The highest number of fatalities were reported in Punjab with 67 deaths, followed by 41 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seven in Balochistan, 20 in Sindh, six in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and five in Gilgit-Baltistan.
