Bangladesh Army Chief addresses nation after Hasina Wajid’s resignation

DHAKA: Bangladesh’s Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the nation and announced the end to Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s government.

He also announced the interim setup for the country, adding that the army will take all decisions related to the government.
The Army Chief assured the public that the military is committed to restoring peace and order, urging citizens to place their trust in the armed forces. “People should trust the army. We will restore peace in the country,” he said while emphasising the army’s role in steering the nation through this crisis.
The interim government, aimed at maintaining stability and order, will be established promptly. The Army Chief is set to meet with the President to formalise the formation of this temporary administration. “I appeal to the people to remain peaceful,” he urged.

In his address, the Army Chief also promised a thorough investigation into the deaths that occurred during the recent riots, seeking to address public concerns and ensure accountability.

In a related development, Indian media is reporting that Sheikh Hasina Wajid has not moved to India. She has fled to Belarus after India refused to allow her passage, Indian media reported.
