Bannu attack on peace committee office leaves seven dead, two injured

WEB DESK: At least seven people were killed and two others injured after gunmen attacked the office of a local peace committee in Bannu on Friday, according to police. Officials said the armed assailants opened fire on the office of peace committee chief Qari Jaleel in the limits of Huved police station. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the terrorist attack, expressing deep sorrow over the deaths of seven individuals. He described the assault as a cowardly and inhumane act and extended his heartfelt condolences, stating that he shares equally in the grief of the families of the deceased.
The deceased were identified as Danish, Kamran, Waliullah, Sufyan, Mohammad Niaz, Nauman and another man also named Sufyan. The bodies and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Police and other law-enforcement agencies have launched an investigation and cordoned off the area to trace the attackers.
The incident comes amid a surge in violence in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where local peace committees have often been targeted by militant groups. Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive for the attack.
