ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has refuted claims made by Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, regarding the release of the former prime minister from jail.

Earlier, Aleema Khan had claimed that the government has indicated that Imran Khan will be released from custody within 20 days.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, she had described a scenario the government felt ‘compelled’ to respond to public protests and unrest.

According to Aleema Khan, the PTI’s recurring protests have forced the government to release Imran Khan from jail and Barrister Gohar met with Imran Khan in Adiala jail to discuss the matter.

She claimed that during a meeting with Barrister Gohar, the PML-N government had expressed its intention to facilitate the former prime minister’s release, citing the need to alleviate the growing public discontent.

In a telephonic conversation with “Geo News”, when Barrister Gohar was asked about Aliema Khan’s claim of his negotiations with the government, he categorically denied the claim, stating, “I have had no contact with the government on or before November 24.”

The PTI chairman further clarified that there had been no discussions with the government regarding the release of the party’s founder.

When questioned specifically about Aleema Khan’s claim that he had given a timeline for Imran Khan’s release, Barrister Gohar dismissed it outright saying “I neither discussed nor mentioned anything about his release,” he said.

He also rejected the notion that the government had promised to release Imran Khan within 20 days in exchange for ending a sit-in protest.

“The claim about a 20-day timeline for his release is incorrect. The government never made such a promise,” Barrister Gohar clarified.

Aleema Khan also talked about expediting the legal proceedings arguing that a swift trial would prevent unnecessary delays and save time for all parties involved.

She criticised the current state of the legal process, particularly regarding the Jinnah House case.

She stated that the PTI leadership was not seeking bail but rather demanded that the trails commence without further delay.

Aleema also expressed concern over the prosecution’s lack of evidence, suggesting that the prolonged legal battles have left to a waste of time  and resources for everyone involved.
