Bilawal Bhutto warns of legal proceedings against President Alvi

Bilawal Bhutto

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has voiced concerns over President Arif Alvi’s actions, stating that they warrant dual legal proceedings for breaching constitutional mandates.

Speaking to media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Bilawal emphasized that one case revolves around the President’s controversial decision to dissolve the assembly amidst a no-confidence motion, while the other pertains to his failure in convening the National Assembly session as mandated by the constitution.

Bilawal criticized President Arif Alvi for what he perceives as a disregard for constitutional obligations, asserting that if the President neglects his duties, it falls upon the Speaker to uphold constitutional integrity.

He underscored that the presidency transcends the individual occupying it and highlighted concerns regarding the President’s suitability for the office, warning that his actions could lead to legal complications.

He emphasized the need for politicians to respect each other’s boundaries, stressing that such mutual respect is essential for maintaining their rightful status.

Bilawal also mentioned the upcoming presidential election, stating that the PPP aims to elect Asif Ali Zardari as president once again. He highlighted the Election Commission of Pakistan’s schedule for the exercise, with polling set to take place on March 9 across various legislative bodies.

Regarding the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Bilawal clarified that the entity did not approach the PPP for votes, emphasizing that there was no justification for criticizing his party for non-cooperation in this regard.
