Billie Piper to set to star in a new Netflix series

WEB DESK: British actress Billie Piper is set to take on a new television project, having recently signed on for a series adaptation of Terri White’s memoir “Coming Undone.”

The memoir is written by the former editor-in-chief of “Empire” magazine. The story delves the writer’s personal journey, exploring the conflict between her public success and private struggles that culminated in a mental health crisis.

The series will delve into the White’s upbringing in poverty and experiences of abuse. The show will also shed light on her time spent in a psychiatric ward.

In addition to her starring role in the series, Billie Piper is also attached as an executive producer.

The adaptation of Coming Undone is currently in development at Netflix and is being produced by “Bad Wolf”.

Bad Wolf is a production company created in 2015. The company has produced highly acclaimed television series including “A Discovery of Witches”, “His Dark Materials” and the latest era of British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) science-fiction series “Doctor Who”.

Piper has also starred in Doctor Who as the titular protagonist’s assistant from 2005-2006, with recurring roles in subsequent years.

In a recent interview, Piper reflected on her experience working alongside Christopher Eccleston on Doctor Who, the latter of whom portrayed the titular Doctor in the series. Billie Piper expressed sadness upon learning about Eccleston’s struggles during their time on the show in 2005.

The British actress stated she now knows how Eccleston “was having a hard time”. However, she is not sure she “understood at the time how troubled he was with it all”.

While Piper remains open to the possibility of making guest appearances in the future, she does not foresee a return to Doctor Who full time .

Piper transitioned from her early success as a singer to acting eventually. She gained widespread acclaim in the music industry with her debut single “Because We Want To”. She became the youngest female artist to top the “UK Singles Chart” at the age of fifteen.

The former singer’s first album “Honey to the B” also performed successfully, earning a platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

However, Billie Piper decided to shift her focus to acting in 2003, leaving behind a promising music career. She received widespread acclaim in acting, as well, with her portrayal of Rose Tyler in Doctor Who in 2005.

Piper’s acting career continued to flourish with roles in critically praised series such as “Penny Dreadful” from 2014 to 2016.

Her acting prowess was further solidified by her performance in “Yerma,” for which she earned six “Best Actress” awards, including a “Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Play” in 2017.
