Brace for stormy Eid: Met Office forecasts rain, windstorms

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of rain and windstorms in the upper parts of the country, beginning tomorrow and continuing through the Eid holidays.

In response to the forecast, disaster management authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have issued advisories to district officials to prepare for potential emergencies.

According to the Met Office, moist air currents are moving into northeastern Pakistan, while a westerly wave is expected to reach northern areas on June 3.

Rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms are expected from June 2 to 5 in areas including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, and Abbottabad.

Similar weather is forecast for June 3 and 4 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, and nearby districts across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In southern regions, the weather will remain hot and dry, with dust storms likely during this period.

Additional rainfall, windstorms, and thunderstorms are predicted in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, and Mansehra over the Eid ul Azha holidays, from June 7 to 9.

Meanwhile, plain areas are expected to experience very hot and dry conditions during the holidays.

The Met Office has also issued a warning regarding possible accidents due to severe weather.

Strong winds, hail, and lightning may cause damage to weak structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels.
