Brewers turn to Robert Gasser as young arms lead push for series sweep

MINNEAPOLIS: The Milwaukee Brewers are continuing to trust their young pitchers as they head into the final game of their series against the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis on Sunday.

After strong performances from Coleman Crow and Logan Henderson in the first two games, it is now 26-year-old Robert Gasser’s turn. He will make his season debut as the Brewers look to complete a three-game sweep.

Crow had a solid outing in the series opener, giving up just one run in five innings to help Milwaukee win. The next day, Henderson also impressed, allowing only one run and striking out seven batters over five innings to earn the win.

Henderson said the young pitching group supports each other and feels confident because the team trusts them. Many of them played together at Triple-A Nashville, and that experience has helped them grow.

He added that it feels special to be part of a group of young pitchers who are stepping up together, calling it a “next-man-up” mindset.

The Brewers have been in strong form, winning their last three games and eight of their last nine overall.

On the other side, the Twins are trying to avoid a series sweep after losing the first two games by just one run each. Despite the close games, they have struggled to take advantage of key scoring chances.

Minnesota manager Derek Shelton said his team knew they had to be sharp against Milwaukee but failed to capitalize in important moments, which made the difference in both losses.

For the finale, the Twins will start right-hander Bailey Ober, who has a 4-2 record and 3.46 ERA. Ober is coming off a brilliant performance where he pitched a complete-game shutout against the Miami Marlins, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.

He will now aim for back-to-back wins and has a solid record against the Brewers, having won once in two previous starts.

Robert Gasser, meanwhile, will be making his first start of the 2026 season and just the eighth of his MLB career. He has shown promise in limited opportunities since debuting in 2024 and has yet to face the Twins.

The Twins may also get a boost with the possible return of star outfielder Byron Buxton, who has missed the last few games due to a hip injury. He has started doing light field work and is slowly recovering, though he has not yet returned to the lineup.
