The federal government has authorised the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months for “sensitive security duties”, according to an Interior Ministry notification issued on Aug. 21.
The deployment was approved under Article 245 of the Constitution following a request from the Punjab Home Department, the notification said.
It said the troops would be deployed to “avoid any undesirable situation” and respond effectively to any unforeseen circumstances according to the requirements of the district administration.
The notification said the deployment would take effect immediately and remain in place for six months.
Article 245 of the Constitution provides for the deployment of the armed forces in aid of civil power.
