British High Commissioner backs Pakistan’s facilitative role in Iran-US talks

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott called on Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday to discuss the evolving regional situation and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions, the foreign ministry said.

According to a statement, Dar underscored Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate engagement between relevant parties and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The meeting comes amid intensified regional diplomacy involving efforts to sustain a fragile ceasefire framework and promote negotiations between key international stakeholders.

The British envoy appreciated and supported Pakistan’s “facilitative role” in bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table, according to the statement.

In a report, Jane Marriote said: “Thank you DPM Dar and Pakistan for your ceaseless drive and continued efforts to resolve global challenges.”

Pakistan has in recent weeks sought to position itself as a mediator in regional tensions, urging sustained diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
