Carolina Flores Gómez: beauty queen’s death sparks shock as questions grow

Carolina Flores Gómez

Carolina Flores Gómez, a former beauty queen, has been found dead in her luxury apartment in Mexico City, with reports pointing to a shocking suspect within her own family.

The 27-year-old, who was crowned Miss Teen Universe for Baja California in 2017, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head last week in the upscale Polanco district, one of the capital’s most affluent areas.

Authorities believe she may have been killed a day before her body was found, raising questions about the timeline of events leading up to the discovery.

Suspicion falls within the household

Investigators are examining the role of those inside the home at the time, including her husband, Alejandro Gómez, who reportedly alerted authorities the following day.

His mother, Erika María, has been identified in local reports as a key suspect, with officials working to establish what happened inside the apartment.

Forensic teams have since searched the property for evidence, while building staff reportedly did not hear gunshots or notice any unusual activity at the time.

Case sparks wider outrage

The killing has triggered renewed concern over violence against women in Mexico, with campaigners calling for the case to be treated as femicide.

Marina del Pilar Ávila is among officials urging a full and urgent investigation, stating that crimes against women must not go unpunished.

According to official figures, around 10 women are killed each day in Mexico, with only a small fraction of cases leading to convictions.

Questions remain as investigation continues

Authorities have not yet confirmed further details as the investigation remains ongoing.

The case has drawn significant attention due to both the circumstances of her death and her public profile, with growing scrutiny around how the situation unfolded inside what was expected to be a secure, high-end residence.
