Chief justice creating environment for horse-trading: Arif Alvi

Chief justice

LAHORE: After the Supreme Court on Thursday struck down its 2022 verdict related to the defection clause under Article 63-A of the Constitution, former president Arif Alvi has accused Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa of creating an environment for horse-trading involving selling and buying of members.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, the former president and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader said that democracy was being undermined.

“Why Article 63-A is being looked into now? The chief justice is creating an environment for horse-trading. The current chief justice has caused more damage than Justice Munir. He will never stay in Pakistan after retirement,” Alvi said.

He further criticized the current assembly, calling it fake and illegitimate to amend the Constitution.

He feared that the Bhutto family may not set the Constitution on fire.

“They are running the country’s system in a ruthless manner. No one, including PTI’s founder, has received relief under the Constitution. The regime changers had promised to uphold the Constitution,” he stated.

Alvi said that the PTI is peaceful, accusing the police of committing violence at every rally. “The government has decided not to grant any concession,” he said.

Alvi said that Israel was “destroying Muslim countries like thugs” and called on Muslim nations to stand up. He said that Quaid-e-Azam’s stance was that “Palestine belongs to the Palestinians.”
