Christian delegation meets Tarar brothers, discusses minority rights and legal reforms

WEB DESK: A delegation representing the Christian community met Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday to discuss matters relating to minority rights, legal reforms and the welfare of minority communities.
Government reaffirms commitment to equal rights
During the meeting, the delegation appreciated the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding the rights of minority communities in Pakistan.
They welcomed recent legislative developments, particularly the Child Marriage Restraint Act, and commended the role of the National Commission for Minorities in promoting equal opportunities and protecting minority rights.
Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored the importance of consultative processes in advancing comprehensive legal and policy reforms.
He reiterated that the government remained committed to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens in accordance with the Constitution.
Focus on consultation and inclusive policymaking
The meeting also held detailed discussions on issues faced by minority communities, with particular focus on addressing concerns of the Christian community through relevant legal and policy frameworks, including Christian personal laws.
It was agreed to continue consultations to further examine the recommendations and develop an effective mechanism for resolving outstanding issues.
Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed the government’s resolve to protect the rights of minorities, noting that engagement with representatives of diverse communities helped ensure their views were reflected in policymaking.
He said the government remained committed to promoting interfaith harmony, equal citizenship and an inclusive society where all citizens could contribute to national development without discrimination.
