Colombia earthquake death toll rises to 234, 2,595 injured

WEB DESK: The death toll from the earthquake in Colombia has risen to 234, while 2,595 people have been injured, Colombian authorities said.

Authorities said the search for 195 people reported missing and believed to be trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings is ongoing.

The earthquake destroyed 1,136 houses and caused 48 buildings to collapse, according to officials.

A total of 8,357 houses were damaged, while 807 educational facilities were also affected.

The earthquake also damaged 85 health facilities, 76 roads and 377 community centres, authorities said.

Meanwhile, 16 water supply systems and a runway at one airport were also affected by the earthquake.
