Complete smog lockdown in Lahore tomorrow

LAHORE: A complete smog lockdown will be observed tomorrow (Sunday) in Lahore and six divisions and nine districts of Punjab.

Lahore has slipped to the rank of fourth among the most polluted cities in the world from number one. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore on Saturday was recorded at 230.

The areas around Baidian Road in Lahore have the highest AQI with a record of 504.

Specifically, Cantt Polo Ground, Jail Road, Mall Road, Kot Lakhpat, and DHA Phase 5 are included in the most polluted areas in Lahore.

Educational institutionsremained completely closed on Saturday under the smart smog lockdown measures in Lahore.

15 arrested as traders reject smog lockdown

Markets and business centers will be allowed to open after 3:00 PM in Lahore today (Saturday).

However, commercial centers and markets in all six divisions, including Lahore, will remain completely closed on Sundays.

On Sundays, the historic Mall Road in Lahore will be restricted to cycling only from morning until 5:00 PM. These measures are being taken by the district government to prevent the effects of smog.

Free masks distribution

In Rawalpindi, 30,000 free masks are being distributed among the urban population by the district administration.

On Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired the meeting to review the situation of smog in the province as Lahore city once again ranks first among the most polluted cities globally.

The meeting decided that Friday and Saturday would be declared as holidays in educational institutions. In addition, markets will not be allowed to open before 3 pm on Saturday. The rules will apply to gyms and restaurants as well.
