Court first orders Imaan Mazari’s judicial remand than changes mind

Imaan Mazari

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has ordered that human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari be held at a women’s police station in the capital city until her bail hearing tomorrow (Saturday).

This decision comes just moments after the same court had sentenced her to a two-week judicial remand in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail in a terror case.

Imaan Zainab Mazari, a lawyer and human rights activist, was sent on a 14-day judicial remand in a terror case by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Friday.

The additional district and sessions judge, Abual Hasnat, approved Mazari’s judicial remand and sent her to Adiala jail.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Shahzad, a resident of Nai Abadi Bhara Kahu, against Imaan, Wazir, and others.

It is worth noting that the capital police re-arrested human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari shortly after she was granted post-arrest bail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in a case related to “interference in state affairs” on Tuesday. Following the expiration of her physical remand, she was brought before Judge Abul Hasnaat Muhammad Zulqarnain, along with her lawyer Zainab Janjua, public prosecutor Raja Naveed, and her mother Shireen Mazari for the terror case.

During the hearing, the prosecutor requested an extension in Imaan’s physical remand, prompting Judge Zulqarnain to inquire about the current status of the case. Subsequently, he ordered that Imaan be placed on judicial remand at Adiala Jail.

Shortly thereafter, another member of Imaan’s legal team, Qaiser Imam, filed a bail application with the same court. The court issued notices on the bail application to the police, urging them to respond by September 4. However, Imaan’s counsel, Zainab Janjua, requested an earlier hearing on medical grounds and due to Imaan’s gender.

Lawyer Qaiser Imam informed the court that his client’s health was not in good condition.

The request for an early hearing was granted, and the court issued directives to hold Imaan at a women’s police station in Islamabad until the bail hearing tomorrow.

Additionally, the court amended the notice to the police, asking them to respond by September 2.
