Covid-19 tests of int’l passengers to be conducted

ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has decided to bring back Covid-19 tests at points of entry throughout the country.

The Covid-19 tests will be conducted of passengers coming from abroad as a precautionary measure, according to NCOC

In a notification, NCOC said it was ‘vigilantly’ observing the surge in Covid-19 cases across the world and has decided to take measures to prevent its spread in Pakistan.

For this purpose, NCOC has mandated screening of 2% of all arrivals into the country. Authorities have been told to maintain vigilance at all points of entry.

According to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to save people from the possible outbreak of the new Covid variant.

The NCOC meeting discussed the situation in the country about the new variant of Covid JN-1. The forum was told that Pakistan has not reported a single case of the new covid variant, so far.

The forum okayed Covid-19 tests at the airports and borders.

Random screening of travellers arriving from Gulf states and Saudi Arabia will start at Kara­chi, Lahore and Islamabad airports.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) would now be conducted at the three airports for all inbound flights from the Gulf countries and Saudi Arabia as per proportion.
