LISBON: Cristiano Ronaldo has been named in Portugal’s squad for a record sixth World Cup appearance, extending his unmatched legacy on football’s biggest stage.

The veteran forward, now 41, continues his remarkable international journey after being included in Roberto Martínez’s latest roster ahead of next month’s tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. FIFA will officially confirm the final squad lists on June 2.

Ronaldo first appeared at the World Cup in 2006, where he helped Portugal reach the semi-finals for the first time in 40 years. They later lost to France in the semis and finished fourth after defeat to Germany.

Over his World Cup career, Ronaldo has played 22 matches, making him fifth on the all-time list, and has scored eight goals. In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he made history by becoming the first player to score in five different editions of the tournament.
