Delhi University harassment allegations: Student’s viral video sparks outrage on social media

New Delhi: A video shared by a Delhi University student alleging harassment and institutional pressure has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and calls for an impartial investigation.

In the viral Instagram reels, the student claims she was threatened by her Head of Department (HOD) after posting videos accusing a professor of misconduct. According to the student, she was told to delete the reels or face serious academic consequences.

“Delete the reels or we will ruin you”

In the video, the student alleges that the HOD warned her by saying, “Delete all the reels you posted against the professor. We can ruin a lot for you.” The student further claims she was denied her admit card and faced pressure from fellow classmates to withdraw her allegations.

She also alleges that some students sided with the professor in exchange for internal assessment marks, raising concerns about misuse of authority within the institution.

Demand for justice

The emotional video quickly spread across Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other platforms, with users demanding accountability and protection for the student. Hashtags related to Delhi University harassment allegations began trending, as activists and students called for intervention by university authorities.

So far, Delhi University has not released an official statement addressing the allegations. The lack of response has further fueled criticism and concerns over student safety and transparency within educational institutions.

Calls for independent inquiry

Education rights activists say the case highlights the need for stronger grievance redressal mechanisms and protection for whistleblowers in universities. Many have urged the administration to ensure a fair and independent inquiry into the matter.

As the video continues to circulate online, the controversy has reignited a broader debate about power dynamics, harassment complaints, and institutional accountability in higher education.
