LAHORE:  Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Tuesday announced that the ongoing Dengue outbreak has escalated to epidemic proportions. Swift and decisive action is being taken to contain the spread of the virus.

Efforts are underway to combat the Dengue epidemic, and the government remains committed to safeguarding public health, the CM said.

Provincial authorities confirmed 1,458 cases of the viral infection in 36 districts of Punjab this year, according to Punjab Health Secretary Ali Khan.

Lahore has reported the highest number of 562 cases, Rawalpindi 271, Multan 166, Faisalabad 112, and Gujranwala has reported 54 infections.

The Chief Minister emphasized the gravity of the situation and expressed a commitment to addressing the crisis with utmost urgency.

“The state of our hospitals demands immediate attention,” said the Chief Minister. “The hospital administration is under scrutiny, and it falls upon the head of the hospital to take responsibility for its current condition.”

Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for comprehensive healthcare reforms and called upon all stakeholders to work diligently towards this goal.

“I have been part of the healthcare sector since its inception, and witnessing people find relief through our efforts brings me great satisfaction,” the Chief Minister stated.

Addressing concerns about the healthcare workforce, he clarified, “It’s not fair to blame our dedicated doctors for the deteriorating state of healthcare. The government must ensure that the necessary facilities are provided to support their work.”

The Chief Minister stressed that continuing and implementing effective policies is imperative to prevent further deterioration of the healthcare system.

“The government’s role in providing essential facilities cannot be understated,” he asserted. “Without proper infrastructure and resources, the situation will only worsen.”

In a potential solution to the crisis, the Chief Minister proposed a plan to employ 150 individuals across 36 districts, expressing optimism that this measure could significantly improve the situation.
