Diamer police Seize large cache of illegal arms

GILGIT: Diamer Police on Monday claimed to have seized a huge cache of illegal arms and arrested a suspect allegedly involved in selling weapons without a license under the pretext of repairs.
According to a handout issued by Gilgit-Baltistan Police, the Elite Police Station KKH, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) City Muhammad Owais Elias, conducted a successful raid on a shop located in the Chilas market adjacent to the Karakoram Highway. Acting on intelligence provided by the Diamer Security Branch, police recovered a large quantity of illegal arms.

The shop owner, Shahab-ur-Rehman, son of Wali-ur-Rehman, was arrested on the spot. The seized weapons included 23 five-shot guns, eight 12-bore rifles, two submachine guns (SMGs), one semi-automatic weapon, and eleven 30-bore pistols.
Police said the illegal arms were being sold without any valid license under the guise of repairs, which was not only a serious violation of the law but has also been linked to various criminal activities in the region.
The suspect has been shifted to Police Station KKH, while the recovered illegal arms have been confiscated and recorded. Further investigations are underway, and legal action will be taken against the accused in accordance with the law.

Police urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the relevant departments promptly to help maintain peace and security in the area.
