Dozens of professional beggars arrested for pestering tourists

HARIPUR: Naran police have arrested dozens of professional male and female baggers and their children during various operations.

On the instructions of Mansehra District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur, the police conducted the operation against professional beggars and took dozens of male and female beggars into custody.

The police also collected their complete data before they were sent back to various cities of Punjab.

According to the police, the baggers were causing inconvenience to the public on streets, in markets and at tourist spots.

They were not only pestering visiting tourists but also begging forcibly.

The Naran police took the action after repeated complaints from the tourists visiting the picturesque and natural spots.

According to the police, a strict crackdown on professional beggars is under way in other districts as well.

During the summer season, professional beggars from various parts of Punjab and Sindh flock to tourist destinations, stay there for the three months and earn thousands of rupees through begging.

Thousands of visitors Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore and other parts of the country travel to the scenic destinations during the summer to escape the scorching heat.

The renowned tourist destination Babusar Top has been reopened to traffic after a closure of six-month.

The Babusar Top was closed to all vehicular traffic on October 29, 2024, after snowfall across Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Babusar Top is typically closed from November to June due to extreme temperatures, and traffic is regularly diverted to KKH during these months.
