Professional beggars arrested during crackdown in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Civil Defence on Tuesday conducted a significant operation in various parts of the federal capital, resulting in the apprehension of up to 15 professional beggars.
According to details, in line with the directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, the operation was carried out under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Aneel Saeed and the Assistant Director of Civil Defence.
The beggars were arrested from Margalla Road, Aabpara Market, and Faisal Mosque areas. The detainees were shifted to the police station for further action. The minor children who were begging were sent to the Edhi Center.
The operation against beggars was being carried out daily basis under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners, in Islamabad. The operation aims to discourage professional begging and to protect the citizens from harassment. INP

Separately, The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have increased fines over traffic violations effective from September 26.
According to a spokesperson for the ICT police, the interior ministry has issued a notification endorsing the jack-up in fines.
