ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday officially recognised 93 returned Members of Provincial Assemblies (MPAs) in three provinces as lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order on July 12 regarding reserved seats.

According to a notification from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), 29 members from the Punjab Assembly, 58 members from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 6 members from the Sindh Assembly have been officially recognized as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers.

The ECP has confirmed that these 93 members are now acknowledged as part of PTI.

Previously, the ECP had also recognized 39 members of the National Assembly as PTI representatives.

On July 12, a full bench of 13 judges from the Supreme Court ruled that the opposition PTI is eligible to receive reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in both national and provincial assemblies.

This decision has dealt a significant blow to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ruling coalition and potentially positions PTI as the single largest party in both houses of Parliament. The Supreme Court also recognized PTI as a parliamentary party.
