Eid Milad-un-Nabi on Tuesday: no three-day holiday as Rabi-ul-Awwal moon not sighted

ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on Wednesday that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal has not been sighted, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be observed on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

As a result, Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be a public holiday in Pakistan on Tuesday, which means that Pakistanis will not have a three-day holiday.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi has been officially designated as a public holiday in Pakistan for the year 2024, as announced in the notification issued by the Federal Cabinet Division regarding this year’s public holidays.

The meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Secretariat. It was attended by representatives from the Islamabad zonal committee, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

On a public holiday, all educational institutions—including schools, colleges, and universities—will be closed. Si milarly, banks and markets will also remain closed.

The 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal is a significant day known as Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrated nationwide with deep religious devotion and enthusiasm.

This day is characterised by public processions, gatherings, and educational seminars that focus on illuminating the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
