LOUISIANA: A tragic mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, left at least eight children dead on Sunday, local authorities confirmed.
According to police, the victims were aged between one and 14 years. Officials said at least 10 people were shot in total, though details about the condition of the survivors were not immediately shared.
A spokesperson for the Shreveport Police Department said the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. and is being treated as a domestic disturbance. Some of the children were reportedly related to the suspected gunman.
Police said the suspect fled the scene after hijacking a vehicle and was later shot dead during a police chase. Louisiana State Police have launched an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect, pending notification of the victims’ families.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the incident as one of the most tragic in the city’s history, calling it a “devastating situation.”
