Commenting on the initiative, Mian Farooq Nazir, a representative of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), affirmed that the prisoners’ postal votes would be duly counted, with the results contributing to the overall electoral outcome.
The ECP, through IG Jails Punjab, had extended the opportunity for prisoners to exercise their voting rights, exemplifying a commitment to inclusivity and democratic principles. In compliance with this directive, prison authorities facilitated the collection of data for eligible prisoners, enabling them to participate in the electoral process.
With prisoners having cast their votes, Punjab jails have become an integral part of the electoral landscape, symbolising the extension of democracy to all segments of society.
