US comedian Andy Dick was given emergency assistance on a Hollywood street after suffering an apparent drug overdose, according to reports.

Images circulating online show the 59-year-old slumped over on cement steps outside a building in broad daylight on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said several people rushed to help after he appeared to lose consciousness.

According to those at the scene, one person could be heard shouting at Dick to wake up while others called for an ambulance. A bystander reportedly asked for Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, and the drug was administered at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that emergency crews responded to a report of an overdose involving a 59-year-old man. The individual was not transported to hospital.

The Los Angeles Police Department was also called to the scene after receiving the same overdose report.

Later that night, Dick reportedly confirmed by phone that he was alive and relieved to be safe but declined to share further details about what had happened.

Dick, who rose to fame in the 1990s through television appearances including NewsRadio, has spoken openly in the past about his long-running struggles with substance abuse. He has also had multiple run-ins with the law over the years.

No further official information about his condition has been released.
