ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Saturday issued a notification appointing 48 members to the Regional Representative and Development Council across 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following consultations with local jirgas.

The appointments cover districts in the province’s tribal belt and adjoining areas, with members nominated through consultations intended to select representatives acceptable to local communities, according to details released by the government.

Shaukatullah Khan, who belongs to the Tarkani tribe in Bajaur district, has been appointed chairperson of the council, while Malik Khan Marjan of the Wazir tribe in North Waziristan has been named vice-chairperson.

The appointments come days after the federal government imposed emergency measures and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, transferring executive powers of the provincial government to the governor and establishing an 11-member advisory council to oversee provincial affairs.
