FIA recovers dozens of stolen electricity meters in Haripur

HARIPUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized dozens of allegedly stolen electricity meters in a raid in Haripur in what authorities described as a crackdown on corruption within public utilities.

The raid was carried out in the Naseem Town area of Haripur by the FIA’s Abbottabad zone following a tip-off, officials said.

According to investigators, the meters belonging to power distribution companies, including the Peshawar Electric Supply Company and the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, were recovered from the residence of a former employee identified as Fareed.

Authorities said that the meters were allegedly stolen and sold to private individuals.

The main suspect has been taken into custody, and investigators are expanding the probe amid suspicions that other employees may also be involved, officials added.

The FIA said the operation was part of a broader effort to curb corruption in public institutions, adding that action would be taken against those found responsible for causing losses to the national exchequer.
