An emergency evacuation at India’s Indira Gandhi International Airport left at least six passengers injured after a fire broke out in an aircraft engine during takeoff preparations, according to media reports.

The incident involved a Swiss International Air Lines flight scheduled to travel from Delhi to Zurich. Authorities said the aircraft was accelerating for takeoff early Sunday morning when one of its engines reportedly malfunctioned and caught fire, prompting immediate action from the flight crew.

Pilots aborted the takeoff and initiated an emergency evacuation on the runway. As passengers rushed to exit the aircraft, several injuries were reported due to panic, overcrowding, and a stampede-like situation inside and outside the plane. The injured passengers were later transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Airport emergency teams responded quickly to the scene, securing the area and assisting with evacuation procedures. No fatalities have been reported.

Following the incident, aviation authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the engine fire and assess safety protocols during the evacuation. The aircraft has been grounded for a detailed technical inspection.

Officials have not yet released further details regarding the condition of the injured passengers or the total number of people on board at the time of the incident.
