First Naegleria death of 2024 reported in Karachi

WEB DEKS: A 19-year-old man has died from Naegleria in Karachi, according to a spokesperson from the Health Department
The young man, a resident of the East District, was admitted to a private hospital on August 21.
The virus was confirmed in his case on August 25.

A free-living amoeba, Naegleria, is commonly found in warm freshwater (such as lakes, rivers, and hot springs) and soil. Only its one species, Naegleria fowleri, infects people.
