Fog leads to road closure on M2, M3, M4, M5

LAHORE: The M-2, M-3, M-4 and M-5 motorways have been closed due to an intense foggy weather, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) spokesperson said on Monday.

Motorway M-2
In motorway M-2, the stretch from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabo has been closed due to sever fog. The section has been affected by low visibility, making it unsafe for commuters.

Motorway M-3
Similarly, the rout from Faizpur to Nankana in motorway M-3 has also been closed due to a dense fog in the area. The fog has caused an extremely low visibility, forcing the authorities to take immediate precautionary measures.

Motorway M-4
In motorway M-4, the section from Abdul Hakim to Multan has been closed to maintain fog-weather SOPs.

Motorway M-5
While in M-5, the stretch from Sher Shah Multan to Zahir Pir has also been closed amidst dense fog in the area. The motorways will remain closed till next notification.

Meanwhile, the NHMP have closely been monitoring the situation and providing updates regularly. The closure of the motorways is announced to ensure public safety and safe travel for the commuters.
Yet, lane violations in fog is risky and can cause accidents. IG Raja Rifat Mukhtar has instructed the motorway police to campaign against such violations, the spokesperson noted.

Travel Advisory
All travelers are advised to exercise caution while driving and adhere at best to traffic advisories. They are also urged to consider alternative routes where applicable.

Citizens should prefer to travel during daylight hours as much as possible. For necessary travelling, the best times are from 10 AM to 6 PM, especially in Lahore.

Drivers should use front and rear fog lights. Avoiding unnecessary public travelling is advised.
Avoid speeding and keep a proper distance from the vehicle in front. Commuters must ensure lane discipline in foggy weather.
