Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad released from Israeli custody

WEB DESK: Former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has been released following his unlawful detention by Israeli forces while participating in a humanitarian aid mission to the besieged Gaza Strip.

The veteran politician was part of a group of international humanitarian workers aboard the Global Sumud, a vessel within the Freedom Flotilla aimed at breaking the blockade to deliver essential supplies to Palestinians, according to Radio Pakistan.

After his seizure at sea, Mushtaq Ahmad was held by Israeli authorities before being deported.

International coordination secures release

Following his release from Israeli custody, the former Senator was facilitated by Hellenic authorities in Crete, Greece.

The government of Türkiye subsequently stepped in to enable his safe transfer to Istanbul. From there, arrangements have been made for his onward travel to Pakistan, where he is expected to receive a warm reception from supporters and human rights advocates.

The coordination between Athens and Ankara proved pivotal in ensuring the swift transit of the former lawmaker after the harrowing ordeal at sea.

Sources close to the Senator suggest he remains in good spirits despite the detention, maintaining his commitment to the Palestinian cause.

Pakistan issues stern condemnation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad has issued a robust statement strongly condemning the illegal detention of humanitarian workers.

Officials described the obstruction of aid to Gaza as a violation of international humanitarian law and a “callous disregard” for human life in the besieged enclave.

Reaffirming its diplomatic stance, Pakistan reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination.

The government further called upon the international community to ensure the safety of aid workers and to hold occupying forces accountable for the continued blockade of essential life-saving resources.
