From the President to the Prime Minister and Punjab Police, leaders across the country honored the contributions of workers and pledged action against exploitation, forced labor, and child labor. The day also highlighted the essential role that workers play in the nation’s economy and the ongoing efforts to improve their living and working conditions.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, said that protecting workers is essential for safeguarding Pakistan’s future. He stated that fair wages, reasonable working hours, and dignified working conditions are fundamental rights of every worker.
The President also highlighted that the Constitution of Pakistan reinforces the country’s commitment to eliminating exploitation. Calling workers the foundation of the national economy, he reiterated the government’s resolve to eradicate unfair wages, forced labour, and child labour across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stands in solidarity with the global community in observing Workers’ Day. He paid tribute to workers worldwide, with special recognition for Pakistani labourers.
