Fuel relief scheme: Govt exempts vehicle, bike registration in beneficiary’s name

ISLAMABAD: The federal government announced on Friday that beneficiaries of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s fuel relief scheme do not necessarily need to have the vehicle or motorcycle registered in their name to receive the Rs500 relief.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Bilal Azhar Kayani and Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that the scheme had benefited 4.7 million people across the country in one week, while 5,875,199 people had so far registered under the scheme.

Shaza said that 6,131,781 tokens had been issued under the scheme, which covers motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws and small cars.

Bilal clarified that applicants did not need to have the motorcycle or vehicle registered in their own name to qualify for the fuel relief. If they had the vehicle’s documents and were in its possession, they could benefit from the scheme.

He said motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users were being provided Rs500 worth of free petrol relief every week, with the government keeping the process simple to ensure the benefit reached eligible citizens directly.

Shaza said that the scheme was aimed at providing direct relief to eligible citizens despite the increase in petroleum prices in international markets.

She said the government was using a digital system to facilitate registration and ensure transparent delivery of the relief.

Shaza said that 4.7 million citizens had benefited from the scheme within a week, adding that the government was working to make the registration process easier and ensure that more eligible people could benefit.

She said all relevant institutions were working together to implement the scheme, while Prime Minister Shehbaz was regularly reviewing its progress.

Bilal said that the government’s objective was to ensure that fuel relief reached deserving citizens directly and that the identification of eligible beneficiaries was carried out transparently.

He said the government was linking public relief measures with modern digital systems and maintaining coordination among relevant institutions for implementation of the fuel relief scheme.

The ministers said the government was using technology to speed up registration and deliver relief to eligible citizens without unnecessary complications.
