GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and Minister for Information Technology Suraiya Zaman have become the latest target of a malicious fake video that has gone viral on social media.

The video was uploaded on a fake Facebook account impersonating Noorima Rehan, the renowned singer from Hunza famous for her work in Coke Studio. Posted on April 20, the video garnered over 150,000 views before being taken down on Wednesday.

The video features the chief minister along with Suraiya Zaman. The incident follows a similar case where singer Noorima Rehan herself was duped by such fake video.

Talking to HUM News English, FIA Cybercrime Sub-inspector Sub-Inspector Syed Waqar Rizvi confirmed that two separate complaints have been filed on behalf of the chief minister and the IT minister.

He said that investigations have been launched against the perpetrators. Waqar Rizvi mentioned that the FIA would write to Meta to request details about the fake account. “Hopefully, we will get the necessary details from Meta,” he added.
