G-B CM urges PM to enforce job quotas in ICT

Gilgit: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan has penned a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requesting the enforcement of the job quotas for Gilgit-Baltistan residents in various government institutions within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Dated April 26, 2024, the letter emphasizes the need for adherence to the designated quotas, which are crucial for ensuring fair representation and inclusion of the region’s residents in federal jobs.
The Chief Minister expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s efforts in integrating Gilgit-Baltistan into Pakistan’s broader developmental framework but pointed out the challenges faced by the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan in securing employment in the rapidly growing administrative and social hub of Islamabad.

The letter states that the existing job quota intended for Gilgit-Baltistan residents is often not adhered to during the recruitment processes in ICT’s government institutions. The CM said the lack of representation causes a significant barrier to the inclusion and integration of Gilgit-Baltistan’s youth into mainstream national institutions.

Highlighting the loyalty and commitment of Gilgit-Baltistan’s residents to Pakistan, the Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to ensure that they receive their fair share of employment opportunities as per the notified quotas. Specifically, the letter mentions the need for equitable job opportunities in key ICT institutions such as the Social Security Institution and the Labour Department.

“The residents of Gilgit-Baltistan have consistently proven their commitment and loyalty to Pakistan, and it is only fair that they are given equal opportunity as per notified share,” the CM said.
