GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister (CM) Haji Gulbar Khan has penned a letter to the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) requesting the expedited processing of requisitions for 1,061 vacant positions within the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan.
“The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan is facing an acute shortage of efficient human resources, which is adversely affecting the public service delivery, leading to serious governance issues in the region,” reads the letter, a copy of which is available with HUM News English.
To remedy this predicament, the letter said, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has, from time to time, submitted various requisitions to the FPSC to fill the vacant posts. The CM has sought personal intervention from the FPSC Chairman “in expediting the recruitment process against the requisitions of vacant posts sent to FPSC so that the shortage of efficient human resources can be adequately addressed”.
The Chief Minister praised the FPSC for its role in the recruitment of a Principal Management Service officer for Gilgit-Baltistan, emphasizing the importance of merit and transparency in the selection process. He expressed confidence that the new recruits would play a crucial role in enhancing the administration of the region.
The letter highlighted that despite boasting one of the highest literacy rates in the country, Gilgit-Baltistan faces a unique challenge in terms of employment opportunities, primarily due to the absence of a significant private sector and limited business avenues. This situation has left a considerable number of educated youths without employment, making the public sector the largest employer in the region, which itself is constrained in the number of people it can employ owing to limited financial resources.

“Still, a large number of qualified and eligible youth aspire to join the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan through the competitive examinations conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC),” the letter added.
In a statement to HUM News English, GB CM spokesperson Faizullah Faraq stated that the emergency deployment of thousands of high-grade positions would not only increase the competitive spirit among local youth but also eliminate unemployment.
“After advertising thousands of vacancies through the Federal Public Service Commission, millions of educated young people will be busy preparing to try their luck, which will eliminate negativity from the region and increase a positive approach,” Faraq said.
The spokesperson further stated that vacancies in government and non-government organizations would also be filled at the local level. In this regard, he said, all departments have been instructed to promptly submit details of vacant positions to the Department of Services and General Administration so that new employment opportunities can be provided to unemployed youth.
