Girls clinch top positions in science group as Peshawar board declares matric results

PESHAWAR: Girls clinched all top three positions in the science group as the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar on Tuesday announced the results of its annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, with the overall pass rate for Class 10 standing at 70.15 per cent.

According to the board, Umama Ali topped the science group by securing 1,182 marks, followed by Syeda Atiqa with 1,178 marks and Hareem Khan with 1,177 marks.

In the arts group, Muhammad Abu Zar secured the first position with 1,088 marks. Saira Zafar stood second with 1,074 marks, while Muhammad Sheikh Hamdan secured third place with 1,062 marks.

In the special candidates’ category, Mehmood Ayaz topped the examinations with 1,060 marks, Rabia Bibi secured second position with 1,052 marks, while Muhammad Azan Khan finished third with 1,050 marks.

The board said of the 95,496 students who appeared in the Class 10 examinations 66,988 passed, resulting in an overall success rate of 70.15 per cent. A total of 27,788 candidates failed the examinations.

For Class 9, 57,847 students were promoted to the next grade out of 97,950 candidates who appeared, producing a pass rate of 59.06 per cent.

More than 40,000 students failed to qualify for promotion to Class 10, according to the board.

The annual matriculation examinations are among Pakistan’s largest public examinations and are used to determine admission to higher secondary education.

Thousands of students across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appear in the examinations each year under the Peshawar education board, one of the province’s largest examination authorities.

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar announced the results at a ceremony attended by students, parents and board officials, who also awarded the top-performing students in science, arts and special candidates’ categories.
